John Milton lived from December 9, 1608, to November 8, 1674. He was born in London, England, as John and Sara Milton's second child. They lived on Bread Street in Cheapside, near St. Paul's Cathedral. Milton's mother was very religious and the daughter of a merchant sailor. Milton's father worked as a legal secretary. He prepared and notarized documents along with real estate transactions and moneylending. Not only was Milton's father a secretary, he alo composed church music. Because of Milton's father's success, John was able to have private tutors and enter into St. Paul school when he was twelve in 1620. Five short years later, Milton had the chance to go to Cambridge, but he did not last more than a year before he was suspended for having a fist fight with his teacher. Although he got to return to Cambridge, he did not enjoy his advanced studies because he felt like he was disliked by his classmates, and he was dissatisfied with the curriculum. Because of this, Milton returned to his father's country home and studied Greek, Latin, and Italian literature. His most famous writing that he published in 1667 was Paradise Lost. While he wrote this epic poem, his eyesight began to deteriorate eventually making Milton blind. He was only able to finish this epic because his daughters wrote down his eloquent speech as it formed into one of the greatest pieces of literature of all time. He also had several other great works including History of Britain published in 1670, Paradise Regain'd published in 1671, and Samson Agonistes published in 1671. Overall, John Milton was a very intelligent man that enjoyed spending most of his time by himself and his studies, creating some of the best literature known to man. http://www.luminarium.org/sevenlit/milton/miltonbio.htm http://kirjasto.sci.fi/jmilton.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Milton http://incompetech.com/authors/milton/
